Deadly Accidents on Lagos-Ibadan and Sagamu-Benin Expressways Claim One Life, Injure Another
At least one driver, Wale Eyinola, has died, and another driver, named Isa, has been injured in two separate accidents along the Sagamu section of the Lagos-Ibadan and Sagamu-Benin Expressways on Tuesday.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incidents to PUNCH Online on Tuesday evening.
The first crash happened around 1:30 am on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Witech Roofing and Pipes Company. It involved a Mack truck with the registration number APP 524 XE and a Dyna Pickup truck with the registration number LSD 601 YK. The Dyna pickup was traveling from Lagos to Ibadan when the driver lost control and crashed into a Mack truck that was parked in the middle lane without any warning signs.
The driver of the pickup, Wale Eyinola, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died. The accident also caused significant damage to the pickup truck. Both vehicles were taken to the Motor Traffic Division office in Sagamu for further investigation.
In a separate accident on the Sagamu-Benin/Ijebu-Ode Expressway in the afternoon, a driver named Isa was injured. Isa was driving a Scania truck with the registration number BEN 234 YL, which was loaded with goods. The truck overturned after Isa lost control, blocking the entire expressway. Isa was quickly taken to Idera Private Hospital in Sagamu for treatment.
Both accidents are under investigation by the Sagamu Police Division to determine their causes and prevent further accidents. The police have urged drivers to be cautious, follow speed limits, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition, especially during the busy holiday season.
