Kano Launches Bold Anti-Corruption Strategy for a Brighter Future
The Kano State Government has officially launched its Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2024-2028, a comprehensive plan designed to fight corruption and promote integrity throughout the state.
The strategy was unveiled during an event supported by the European Union-funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme Phase II, which is implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) on Wednesday.
The launch of the strategy coincided with the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day, which this year centered on the theme “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.” This theme emphasizes the crucial role that young people play in driving change and fighting corruption.
At the event, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State highlighted the importance of tackling corruption, describing it as a destructive force that undermines trust, weakens institutions, and stifles progress. He reiterated, “Protecting human rights is at the heart of our administration’s agenda. We are committed to closing corruption loopholes, investigating misconduct, and ensuring public funds are properly used.”
The event included debates, awareness campaigns, and discussions among stakeholders, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration between anti-corruption agencies, civil society, the media, and the private sector in combating corruption.
Ibrahim Bello, the RoLAC State Coordinator, reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting anti-corruption reforms in Nigeria. “The EU and International IDEA remain dedicated to partnering with Nigeria to promote good governance, transparency, and accountability. This strategy shows the power of collective effort,” he said.
Bello also praised the governor’s reform-driven approach, noting his continuous support for the programme. “The governor has been a key ally in the fight against corruption, demonstrating strong commitment by working with development partners to build a corruption-free state,” he added.
