The development comes amid the high-stakes off-cycle governorship poll held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in which incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking re-election against challengers including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates. Collation of results from the state’s 30 local government areas has been underway through the night at the state INEC office.
