Early Friday morning, around 6 a.m., wahala started on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Two big trucks — one carrying sand and the other loaded with granite, decided to do "who pass who" near the Secretariat. Instead of slowing down, both drivers were fighting for space as if the road belonged to only them. Boom! This resulted to head-on collision.

Sadly, the driver of the sand truck didn’t make it. Even though LASTMA and LASAMBUS rushed there and tried their best to save him, it was too late. Very heartbreaking!

As if that wasn’t enough drama, another truck carrying flour nearby lost control and fell over. Bags of flour were scattered everywhere like a market scene, blocking almost the whole road. This made the road impassable. Traffic became mad — from Warewa all the way past Kara and even Long Bridge. People were stuck for hours, just watching their lives pass them by.

Officials had to start begging drivers to use side routes like Ojodu-Olole to escape the accident scene. Later on, the governor’s adviser came out to talk and basically said, “This whole thing didn’t have to happen.” According to him, impatience and reckless driving caused everything, and if drivers would just calm down and think about safety first, lives wouldn’t be wasted like this.
