Meet Aroma Ufodike from Nnewi in Anambra State, do you remember him? On September 11, 2009, he made history by winning ₦10 million on the Nigerian edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He’s the first—and so far, the only—person in Nigeria to have ever won the grand prize.
What made it even more remarkable is, he didn’t use a single lifeline throughout the game. When he got to the final question, instead of using his “Phone a Friend” to get help, he said, “I want to use my phone-a-friend to call my family and let them know I’m about to win ₦10 million.” And then he did.
So, I ask—are there still intellectually sound youth like this guy in Nigeria today? By the way, I think we need more of that program in Nigeria to uplift and inspire Nigerian students and young people, not the morally empty content that has flooded our social media space.
