Buhari Commends Tinubu’s Leadership, Urges Patience with Reforms

Former President Muhammadu Buhari and political leaders commend President Tinubu's two-year leadership, highlighting progress in economic reforms and security.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for guiding Nigeria through turbulent times, urging citizens to remain patient as the administration’s reforms begin to bear fruit.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari said Tinubu’s leadership over the past two years has shown both determination and vision, particularly in tackling Nigeria’s pressing economic and security challenges.

Reflecting on Tinubu’s second year in office, Buhari acknowledged the hardship many Nigerians are facing, but stressed that lasting reform takes time. “Reducing poverty and inflation is no small task, and it mustn’t be left solely to the government. Citizens and the private sector must also contribute in every way possible,” he said. “Our expectations from government should be balanced with what we too can offer.”

He added: “I congratulate President Tinubu warmly on completing two years in office. May he continue to lead with wisdom and care.”
Barau: Nigeria Is on the Road to Recovery

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau echoed Buhari’s sentiment, saying that Nigeria is firmly on the path to recovery and growth. In a statement released by his media adviser, Ismail Mudashir, Barau said the National Assembly remains fully committed to supporting the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to Barau, President Tinubu inherited a host of complex issues but has since introduced policies and programmes aimed at addressing them head-on. “In just two years, we’ve seen genuine progress in the fight against insecurity and economic stagnation,” he said.

He pointed to significant improvements in security, particularly in the Northwest, where previously lawless areas are now stabilising. He also noted the reduction in kidnappings along the notorious Abuja–Kaduna highway, and a downward trend in violence linked to unknown gunmen in the Southeast.

Barau highlighted the creation of regional development commissions as a step toward balanced national growth, along with the establishment of new higher education and healthcare institutions to boost access across the country.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was also praised as a game-changer, with over 300,000 students already benefitting. Barau argued that the endorsement of President Tinubu’s second term by APC stakeholders reflects the confidence in his long-term vision.

He urged all Nigerians to continue praying for national peace and to support the President’s ongoing efforts to restore socio-economic stability.
Speaker Abbas: Tinubu Shows Bold, Decisive Leadership

House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas also commended Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as courageous and focused. In a statement from his media adviser, Musa Abdullahi, Abbas said the President has shown real commitment to economic recovery, job creation, and security reform.

“President Tinubu pledged to grow the economy by 6% annually, streamline the foreign exchange market, and tackle insecurity — and he’s kept his word,” Abbas stated. “We are not yet where we want to be, but the direction is clear and progress is visible.”
A Dissenting Note from the PDP

In contrast, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) voiced concern over continued insecurity and criticised the government's economic and fiscal strategies. The party called on President Tinubu to reconsider some of the policies they say are deepening hardship across the country.
Conclusion

As President Tinubu marks two years in office, praise from national leaders has been accompanied by calls for perseverance and unity. While challenges remain, supporters say the groundwork has been laid for a stronger, more resilient Nigeria — and patience will be key as these reforms take root.
