Onoh Warns Seyi Tinubu: Parallel Political Moves Could Split APC in South-East Ahead of 2027

Josef Onoh, a former South-East spokesman to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has advised Seyi Tinubu to be careful in organising political outreach in the South-East through the City Boy Movement. He warned that creating parallel structures could harm party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Onoh, who is also chairman of the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, said his advice is based on his experience during the 2023 elections and his desire to strengthen the APC in the region.

He welcomed youth mobilisation and the involvement of private-sector leaders but stressed that such efforts must align with existing APC structures and leaders in the South-East to avoid confusion or duplication of roles.

Onoh noted that the APC has traditionally performed poorly in the South-East, making unity and coordination among party members very important. He said APC governors in the region are already working to build party strength and that cooperation with allied platforms has helped improve stability in some states.

He advised that new political initiatives should support, not compete with, established party systems. According to him, adding new layers of coordination could be misunderstood and weaken collective efforts.

Onoh also stressed that real political success requires grassroots engagement, proper organisation and long-term work, not just public visibility.

While praising business leaders and professionals for showing interest in national development, he said political engagement in the South-East must respect local realities, party history and ongoing efforts by elected officials and party leaders.

He called for renewed engagement with loyal party members in the region, stressing the need for recognition, inclusion and clear communication to keep morale high.

Onoh concluded that political mobilisation in the South-East should be led by APC governors and constitutionally recognised party organs. He urged all stakeholders to focus on unity, dialogue and cooperation to strengthen the party nationwide.
