Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have agreed to choose their new party leaders through a consensus process. These new leaders will manage the party’s activities at the ward and local government levels for the next four years.

This decision was announced in a statement by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Adewale Sadare, in Ibadan on Sunday.

The national leadership of the party has fixed Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the date to begin party congresses in about 30 states, including Oyo State. The party has also released guidelines for how the congresses will be conducted.

Sadare said the party is taking careful steps to make sure the congresses are peaceful and strengthen unity within the party. He explained that past disagreements in 2018 and 2022 affected the party’s performance in the 2019 and 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections.

He said that stakeholders from all 33 local government areas met at the party’s state secretariat on Sunday. They discussed how to organize smooth congresses, especially at the ward and local government levels.

After their meeting, they agreed that leaders and members should return to their wards to take part in an inclusive consensus process to select new executive committee members.

According to the party, in each of the 351 wards, members are expected to agree on a unified list of executive committee members. This list will be presented for approval on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The same process will take place during the Local Government Congress scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, across all 33 local government areas in the state.

The party has also created a five-member Peace Committee led by Fatai Ibikunle. The committee will help resolve any disagreements if members are unable to agree on a consensus list.

The party leadership urged all members to work together and avoid any crisis. They said maintaining peace and unity is important as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
