Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has praised Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), saying they share the same vision for Nigeria’s progress despite belonging to different political parties.

Shekarau made the statement when Adebayo visited him to offer condolences over the death of his elder brother.

Speaking during the visit, Shekarau said he first came across Adebayo during a television interview in the presidential election campaign. He said he was impressed by Adebayo’s clear explanation of national issues.

“My first interaction with him was on television. I watched his interview during the presidential race and appreciated all that he said,” Shekarau stated.

He explained that after watching the interview, he asked associates for Adebayo’s contact and arranged a meeting. Shekarau said he insisted on visiting Adebayo personally.

According to him, their discussions showed that they both want the same thing for Nigeria.

“We exchanged ideas and discovered we share the same vision for this dear country, Nigeria. I want to assure you that great minds think alike,” he said.

Shekarau added that although they are members of different political parties, party differences should not stop Nigerians from working together for national development. He described political parties as “necessary evils” in the current system.

He called on Nigerians to support credible leaders, no matter their party affiliation, and prayed for peace and growth in the country.

Adebayo’s visit was part of efforts to sympathise with Shekarau and his family during their time of mourning.
