A US missionary, Alex Babir, has called on the Nigerian government to do more to protect its citizens, especially people living in neglected communities.
Babir made the call after completing the construction of 35 houses for residents of Yelewata, a community he said had been abandoned by the government. His comments were shared in a video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), where he spoke directly about the situation facing the people.
In the video, Babir said he came to Yelewata with a “good heart” to help people who had been left without basic support. He explained that the new houses were built to provide families with safe, decent shelter after years of hardship.
He also criticized the Nigerian government, saying it has a duty to protect its people and provide basic services for them. According to him, communities like Yelewata should not be left to suffer or face destruction without help.
Babir further stated that the United States government is aware of the housing project. He said his hope is that when he returns to the area in the future, he will not see the community harmed again or its people forced to live in fear.
The video has attracted attention online, with many viewers praising the missionary’s efforts while also renewing calls for the Nigerian government to take stronger action to protect vulnerable communities and improve living conditions for its citizens.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Nigerian government regarding Babir’s comments or the situation in Yelewata.
