X’s Creator Economy Shake-Up: Original Content Rewards & the End of Revenue Sharing

Away from sports and entertainment, platform policy is trending. X is rolling out the Original Content Rewards program, designed to pay creators for original posts that deliver real value—reporting, expertise, commentary, or creativity—rather than simple reshares. At the same time, the older Revenue Sharing program is winding down: no new enrollments are being accepted, and current participants will continue earning until September 7, 2026, before transitioning opportunities open.

Earnings under the new system are based on qualified impressions from Premium users on the Home Timeline. Eligibility requires Premium status, a minimum number of verified followers, recent verified impressions, and consistent original content. The dual announcement of a new rewards structure and the sunset of the old one has sparked discussion among creators about monetization strategy, content quality standards, and how the changes may affect the platform’s information ecosystem.
