Rivers State, Nigeria — The planned commissioning and formal handover of a newly built school and clinic in OdioKwu community has been postponed, according to activist and social commentator Very Dark Man (VDM).
In a statement shared on Friday, VDM said the local traditional ruler (king) objected because he was not properly informed about the event. The king also cited a community custom that prohibits celebrations on Saturdays and Sundays. As a result, the ceremony scheduled for the following day could not proceed.
VDM described the development as “really heartbreaking,” noting that a large number of supporters and well-wishers had already travelled into Rivers State in preparation for the event.
The information is drawn from an X post published by the account @NigeriaStories on 9 October 2026, which quoted Very Dark Man and included video footage related to the planned commissioning.
