Pastor’s Son Arrested in Ogun for Impersonating Prophet and Defrauding Worshippers of ₦18 Million

ILARO, Ogun State — Police in Ogun State have arrested Adewale Ogoemi Arojah, the son of a pastor, for allegedly impersonating a popular cleric and swindling unsuspecting worshippers of more than ₦18 million.

The suspect was taken into custody by operatives of the Ilaro Division after he allegedly created a fake Facebook profile in the name of Prophet Dr. Muyiwa Akogun. Using the duplicated account, Arojah reportedly offered fake prophecies and prayer services to people seeking spiritual help both in Nigeria and the diaspora.

The real Prophet Akogun filed a formal complaint on October 3 after members of the public alerted him to the fraudulent activities being carried out in his name. Police said they used technological monitoring and intelligence to track Arojah to a village in Ajegunle along the Ilaro/Ibogun axis, where he was arrested.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the impersonation and the subsequent fraud. Ogun State Police Command spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the arrest and said Arojah has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Police said the probe will determine the full extent of the scam, identify any possible accomplices, and prepare the case for prosecution.
