The All Progressives Congress (APC) is hitting the pause button today to take a hard look at how well its elected officials—both at the national and state levels—have been performing.
In a major event happening at the Presidential Villa’s Banquet Hall in Abuja, the party is hosting its first-ever policy and performance review summit. At the center of it all: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is expected to use this platform to rally the party around his “Renewed Hope Agenda” and spotlight the key reforms introduced under his leadership.
This summit, which comes nearly two years into Tinubu’s administration, will focus on how much progress has actually been made compared to the promises that got the APC elected. Key sectors like healthcare, infrastructure, the economy, and national security will all come under review.
“The idea is to do a reality check—see where we stand on our campaign promises and figure out where we can do better before the first term ends,” said a senior party official on the eve of the summit.
With over 2,500 participants expected, the event will bring together a broad mix of APC leadership and stakeholders: ministers, governors, presidential advisers, lawmakers, party chieftains, and even heads of major government agencies. APC National Chairman Alhaji Umar Ganduje will lead the charge from the party’s side.
Interestingly, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo—who remains a respected legal mind and public servant—is expected to play a visible role at the event.
Speakers lined up include Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House Abbas Tajudeen, and top APC governors like AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Hope Uzodimma. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Ganduje are also scheduled to address attendees.
On the policy side, key ministers will present updates from their portfolios: Mohammed Idris (Information), Muhammad Ali Pate (Health), Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (Interior), Dave Umahi (Works), and Olawale Edun (Finance). They’ll offer detailed breakdowns of their ministry’s work so far.
National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu will give a report on the fight against insecurity, while Hadiza Bala-Usman will speak on how policies are being shaped behind the scenes.
To cap it off, a panel of high-profile figures—including Governor Abdullahi Sule, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, and Senator Binta Masi Garba—will dissect the presentations and offer their insights.
APC spokesperson Felix Morka confirmed that this is the first time the party is organizing a summit of this scale to evaluate its own leadership and governance track record.
