Davido Says Highlife Legend Bright Chimezie Inspired His Hit with Omah Lay

 

Afrobeats star Davido is giving flowers to the legends—specifically veteran highlife musician Bright Chimezie. In a recent FaceTime chat between the two artists, Davido revealed that Chimezie’s classic track “Because of English” served as inspiration for his hit song “With You” featuring Omah Lay.

During the heartfelt call, Davido credited Chimezie’s sound as a major influence on the vibe and energy of the track, which has gained traction globally. He expressed how much Chimezie’s work shaped the creative process behind the song.

Davido also mentioned he’d love to meet Chimezie in person to thank him properly. In fact, he even offered to fly the music icon out to Lagos to make it happen.

“It would be great to see you face-to-face,” Davido told him.
