Ganduje Shoe Video: Aide Clears the Air Amid Viral Backlash
A video has been making the rounds on social media showing a police officer appearing to lace the shoe of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The clip sparked criticism online, with many calling for disciplinary action against the officer involved.
In response, Aminu Dahiru—Ganduje’s Senior Special Assistant on Visual Communications and Events—has stepped in to clarify what really happened. According to him, the video is being blown out of proportion by people who feel threatened by Ganduje’s growing influence and recent political successes.
Dahiru explained that the officer wasn’t acting out of subservience, but rather untangling a shoelace that could’ve caused the chairman to trip—something done purely for safety. He also pointed out that this moment reflects the close, respectful bond Ganduje shares with his team.
“This is a man who treats those around him like family,” Dahiru said. “I’ve worked with him for nearly a decade, and he’s always been kind, humble, and down-to-earth. He doesn’t encourage flattery or ego-stroking—he genuinely respects his staff.”
He went on to say that the video’s circulation is a deliberate attempt by political opponents to stir up unnecessary controversy. But, Dahiru added confidently, this won’t hurt Ganduje’s popularity.
“Ganduje served Kano State well, and he’s now bringing that same energy to the APC,” he said. “The party is gaining ground, especially with big names like Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Atiku’s former running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, joining the APC. That’s what’s really upsetting the opposition.”
