President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, extending the implementation period of the 2025 federal budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

The presidential assent, announced on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, follows the swift passage of the amendment by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the three-month extension will give Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete ongoing capital projects. It is intended to ensure that funds already appropriated are fully utilised for the benefit of Nigerians without disrupting critical government programmes.

President Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration of the bill, describing it as a further demonstration of cooperation between the Executive and the Legislature in the service of the nation.

This marks the fourth extension of the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act. The original implementation deadline of December 31, 2025, was previously shifted to March 31, 2026, then June 30, and later September 30, 2026.

With the new law in force, federal agencies can continue executing eligible capital projects under the 2025 budget until the end of the year.
