A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by its National Chairman, Nafiu Gombe, has dismissed reports that the party is courting former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex–Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued Thursday in Abuja, Gombe described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that the faction he leads is the ADC’s legitimate national leadership and has no political pact with any of the named figures.
He said the ADC remains focused on building an independent, ideologically driven party guided by its constitution and internal democratic processes, warning that leadership positions and candidacies would only emerge through recognised party procedures.
Gombe also announced the inauguration of Zonal Congress Committees in the South-West, South-East, and North-Central zones between January 5 and 7, 2026, saying the move demonstrated the party’s commitment to transparency and internal democracy.
The statement comes amid rising tensions within the opposition as interest grows in the ADC’s 2027 presidential ticket, with Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and others reportedly eyeing the platform.
