Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have arrested a 21-year-old man, ThankGod Destiny, for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy at Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.

The Deputy Corps Commander for Operations, Richard Balogun, said the incident occurred on January 4, 2026. He explained that the suspect was apprehended after a commercial bus driver and a female passenger raised an alarm over the suspect’s conflicting explanations about the child.

According to Balogun, the suspect allegedly took the boy into a commercial bus heading toward Kings Square. The driver became suspicious due to the lack of resemblance between the man and the child. The suspect first claimed he was taking the boy to the hospital and later said he was buying shoes for him.

The alarm attracted ESSC operatives on patrol, leading to the suspect’s arrest and the rescue of the child, who was unharmed. The suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

Balogun confirmed that the child has been reunited with his family and assured that the ESSC remains committed to combating crime in the state.
