Abuja, Nigeria — Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has denied ever criticizing Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, dismissing circulating claims as the work of “drunken people” and political mischief-makers.

Speaking during a recent interview, Bwala insisted that allegations suggesting he previously spoke against Tinubu before joining the administration are false. According to him, critics attempting to portray him as inconsistent are spreading misinformation to undermine his role in the government.

Bwala, who currently serves as a spokesperson for the administration, said individuals sharing old clips or statements online are deliberately twisting his comments. He argued that many of those criticizing him are not serious commentators but people acting out of political bias.

“Those pushing that narrative are drunken people who don’t understand what they are saying,” Bwala said while responding to questions about past remarks attributed to him.

The controversy emerged after social media users circulated videos and posts allegedly showing Bwala criticizing Tinubu during the period leading up to the 2023 presidential election. Critics claim the comments contradict his current defense of the president and the administration’s policies.

However, Bwala maintained that his position has always been misunderstood and that his comments in the past were taken out of context. He reiterated his support for President Tinubu and his government’s agenda.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office in May 2023 following his victory in the 2023 presidential election, promising economic reforms and governance changes aimed at stabilizing Nigeria’s economy.

Despite the backlash, Bwala insisted he remains focused on his responsibilities and will continue defending the policies and actions of the Tinubu administration.
