Prominent Nigerian cleric Primate Elijah Ayodele has delivered a strongly worded message accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to suppress opposition voters and warning President Bola Tinubu that his close associates risk undermining his re-election prospects.
In a video statement circulating on social media on Sunday, Ayodele said conditions under the current administration have left many Nigerians in “serious pain.” He cited rising school fees, high market prices, persistent insecurity, and what he described as widespread hardship.
“Everything is not going well in Nigeria under this government. Nigerians are in serious pain,” Ayodele stated. He alleged that the APC intends to create violence and target those who do not support the party, including attacks on homes and vehicles.
Addressing President Tinubu directly, the cleric described him as “a good man with a good notion” whose policies, in his view, are harming citizens. Ayodele claimed the president is not receiving accurate advice from those around him, including governors, and that desperation among aides could lead to heavy spending that burdens the nation with debt after the 2027 election.
“Those surrounding you will ruin your chances in the presidential election. They are not telling you the truth,” he said. He urged the president to accept the outcome of the election calmly—whether victory or defeat—and avoid actions that could heighten tension.
Ayodele also directed a pointed message to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, stating that the official must “sustain your integrity by doing the right thing in the 2027 election or you lose it, and it will bring a curse upon you.”
The statement reflects ongoing public debate over economic challenges, security concerns, and preparations for the next general election in Nigeria.
